MIA.... Guess what I have started sewing again!

Hi Everyone,

OMG, I miss sewing so much. I have been pattern drafting a lot recently. It's been close to 6 months since I touched my sewing machine. Was never in the mood to touch the sewing machine during winter even though I was really wanting to sew a coat. It never happened! I was in hibernation mode.

Now I am back and working on a Mccall sewing pattern as well. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good pattern drafting book other then Helen Armstrong's pattern making for fashion design. I had a headache when I went thru this book/manual/textbook LOL!

I desperately want to draft my own patterns so any help from my fellow sewing enthusiasts would help tremendously. Anyway, I will be back with my completed dress soon.

Glad to be back in sewing! Yay!

Have a pleasant week everyone!

  1. The following books I have are pretty good supplements if you have the Helen Joseph Armstrong book and they were very inexpensive:

    1. Basic Patternmaking in Fashion by Lucia Mors
    2. Metric patterncutting for Womens Wear by Winifred Aldrich
    3. How to Use Adapt and Design Sewing Patterns by Lee Hollahan (I liked this one best)

  2. Glad to see you back sewing again. Since I learnt basic drafting in a class, I can't recommend specific books from experience. I'd think the Helen Joseph Armstrong is pretty comprehensive so something basic as mentioned in the above comment might be good to start off with before progressing on to the Armstrong book.

  4. Glad you are back to sewing ways! Metric pattern cutting seems good (but i haven't used any of the patterns from that still) I mostly derive patterns on my own based on Basic bodice & Basic skirt sloper. Make yourself a fit Basic bodice and skirt sloper and you are all to set to dazzle in variety of designer outfits. Imagination is the limit!
