Can you take the heat?

My husband loves spicy food. I can never match eating the level of  chilly spiciness as he can. In fact it was he who showed me the wonderful taste of habanero chilly. If you have read my blog posts of recipes ( here & here). You can see that I use a lot of chillies in my cooking. It's like we are addicted to spicy food.

When we came to Sweden, we came to know that there is a online store here (I do not have the web address now, will update later) which sells spicy chips, nuts and sauces. It's Blair's sauces and snacks. (this is the head office in USA). They have many varieties of chips, nuts and sauces that have different level of spiciness (My mouth is watering as I type this post!). You have to try it if you love spicy food/snacks.

So these were what we bought and guess what, we have tried it all in a couple of days (greedy kids as my mum would say!).

The goodies!

Look who's smiling! He is one happy camper!

From now on, I will replace using paprika powder with habanero powder instead!

So, tell me... Can you take the heat?
Do you guys like spicy food?

Sewing project : McCall 8524

Yes, I made a pajama pants for Mr Hubby! The best part is that he loves it! So this project was worth the effort. I really like this pattern because there are many styles options. It took me two hours to cut and sew this pants pattern. I am definitely making another pant if I find good fabric. For this project I used poly cotton plaid fabric. The good thing with this fabric is that there is no need to iron as it doesn't get wrinkly. Also it has a nice drape, much like MC hammers pants, for those who knows who that is!

I would definitely recommend this pattern to ladies/gents who want to sew something for their partners. A very easy project that has clear instructions. I can't seem to find this pattern on McCall's website anymore. So good luck finding this pattern on ebay (maybe).

Next project : I am going to work on a pattern that I have been putting on hold because of my fear of knits! I really hope I can make this work! I will reveal what that is when I sew it up!

Happy sewing!

Nail of the day: China glaze HELI-YUM

This is such a lovely colour. It reminds me of raspberries! I love pinky red shades, they are girly yet stylish (in my opinion of course!). As you can see, I am a little rusty with nail polish application. That's why it looks like rubbish on my nails now. I was all shaky when I painted the nails. Just wanted to glam up my poor nails. Anyway, please enjoy the colour otherwise! :)

A little about me!

On my youtube channel, I have had so many questions asked about me. So I thought of making a video of it. So here it is. I picked out questions I felt was the only ones I was comfortable answering. You know, there are many nosey people who want to know everything about you. I am a person who respects other people's privacy and I expect the same for me. So only a few questions about me, my makeup and fashion passions were answered!

Product review: Ben Nye Fantasy wheel

This post is for my makeup loving followers. I have used Ben Nye fantasy wheel on my clients back in Singapore. The reason being, I wanted something that had many colours and was in one pot/package. It's much better then bringing many paint pots by Mac. I really feel that it is a good product for makeup artists. Very versatile in terms of how you can use it on the face. There are many ways to use this product. It can be used as a eye base colour, cheek highlight, lip highlight and for face painting too.

This is my review after trying it out on many clients and myself. See below for pros and cons of this product.

(Clockwise)
FW-5 Diamond ice
FW-9 Copper
FW-1 Gold Dust
FW-3 Silver Satin
FW-11 Bronze
FW-7 Ruby Luster (centre)

Pros:
- Many colours in one pot/container. Great for makeup beginner and makeup artists.
- Quite inexpensive. (It's about US$16.00-US$19.00 . Comparing to a Mac paint pot this is far more a better priced product)
- Can be used on eyes, cheeks and lips.
- Does not have any weird smell.
- It lasts a long time. I have used it on many clients and it's still as new.
- Can be applied by a brush or finger.

Cons
- You have to put a primer on before applying this as an eye base. It will crease if you don't.
- Packaging is very basic and plasticy. (It's not that bad if you are not particular about packaging)
- No matte colour, only shimmery ones (This product is not for you if you don't like shimmers)

As you can see, I have more pros than cons. A good product which is pocket friendly. I am always on a lookout for that!

You can get it at the following online stores.

Pattern drafting - A line skirt with front panels

Yay! Another skirt drafted from sketch. I am quite happy with how it turned out. It's a A line yoke skirt with front panelling and some stitching detail. I initially visualized buttons on the front as part of the design of the skirt. I thought the embroidery stitch would be better. Had to try out the some of the stitches from my Janome MC 6600! Glad I did! As for the fabric it is poly cotton, it was quite easy to work with. However, I should have used twill tape on the waist facing. Next time I will for sure!

What do you guys think?

I seriously need to improve my drawing skills!

( I couldn't take a picture wearing it from the back! Here's a shot with mini me!)

The embroidery stitch

Here is the part I wish I had unpicked and realigned and then fixed the zipper!

Anyway, I am getting the hang of drafting again after a long time. More to come! Now I am off to work on McCall 8524, a pants for DH!

Till next time...

Sewing project : Mccall 5703

As many of you might know, I come from sunny land Singapore. We have only two seasons and that is the rainy season and the dry warm season. I am very used to sleeveless tops, shorts, short dresses and jeans. I feel weird having to cover up with clothes. However after moving to Sweden, I realized that wearing proper clothing is crucial to keeping warm. Also since I want to be in the fashion world, it's time I buckle up and try start planning my wardrobe.

So I thought this pattern would make a nice jumper dress for the fall season. I like that you can dress it up with a pair of black boots, turtle-neck top and leggings. However, it can make you look pregnant. So I suggest using a belt for the waist. At least with my creation, I will have to use a belt. I do not want to look pregnant! At least not yet! :) I don't think McCall's carry this pattern anymore!

I didn't take a picture of me in it as I have yet to buy a pair of black boots. I will post the pictures of me dressed in this jumper dress when my outfit is complete.

Till next time, have a great sunday!

More sewing projects to come!

Organizing tip for Zips/Zippers

While working on McCall 5703 jumper dress, I remembered that the pattern needed a 20 inch conceal zipper. So I went to my box of zippers and tried looking for it. It was a mess and I had to measure all the zippers I had just to look for the 20 inch zip. Has this ever happened to you?

So I decided that since I was measuring almost all the zippers why not organize them according to their size and type (conceal or normal zip). So here is what I did.

-> Took measurement of all the zips.
-> Places them in zip lock bags.
-> Labelled them accordingly by size and type.
-> Put all the bags in a plastic box (which can be stored away).

Now they are all organized and easy to pick out when needed. Took me 30 minutes to get this organized. How do you guys organize your zippers?

Happy sewing!

(PS: Finished sewing McCall 5703, will post pictures soon of the end result)
